Lake Lascelles, Hopetoun – A Mallee Gem
Lake Lascelles sits on the edge of Hopetoun in Victoria’s Mallee region and has long been central to local life. Named after pastoralist Edward Lascelles, the man-made lake was created to bring water and recreation to the growing township. Once dry during drought, it was revived in 2010 through the Grampians–Wimmera–Mallee pipeline and has since become a popular spot for swimming, fishing, camping, and walking. Today, Lake Lascelles stands as a symbol of Hopetoun’s resilience and community spirit — a peaceful retreat surrounded by the natural beauty of the Mallee landscape.
